Dearest Squad,
The first draft of this chapter was a bunch of talking heads, as Thursday wakes up and has back-to-back heart-to hearts with Jack and then Silk. (Since I’m an ace at dialogue, my zero drafts often look more like scripts than novel chapters.)
By the time I figured out what words really needed to be said between Thursday and Jack–and it’s some really important stuff, to both these characters specifically and the Woodcutter series as a whole–the chapter was long enough to break into two parts. And since I blew the whole boy/girl/boy/girl chapter POV template out of the water once Hawk disappeared, it doesn’t matter, right?
Anyway, this is the first part.
Keep in mind, before I could throw myself back into Thursday’s book in earnest, I had to write the first 20,000 words of Tuesday’s story. So yes, I do know what happened to Tuesday, in great detail. I’ve always known. Every single thing that has happened in Arilland since I wrote “The Unicorn Hunter” (before Hero but after Enchanted) was always meant to happen. It’s all just been sitting in my head collecting dust for a decade.
Thank you for helping me finally be able to bring these stories into the world.
