I’m so excited! I’ve gone and made my first poetry sale ever to nelilly at Everyday Weirdness. If you don’t have Everyday Weirdness bookmarked to check every day, you’re missing out on some great, classic stuff. I’m honored to be in such company.
The poem is based on one of the Chinese legends of "the rabbit in the moon", which they see instead of "the man in the moon." I realized a few years ago that though I was born in 1976, it was before the Chinese New Year, so I am not, in fact, a Dragon. I am a Rabbit.

That’s not how I see the rabbit on the moon. I usually see the tail where you have the feet.
Whereas I don’t see the ears forwards; I see the dark spot you don’t include as the “ear” in profile and the head where you have the ears… interesting…
Honestly? I still don’t see the rabbit. I always have to look at a picture like this.
Oh, but you’ll always have a bit of the Dragon in you regardless of what day you were born, won’t ya? π
Pretty much.
One day I’ll write a story about a Rabbit-Dragon, and it will be totally autobiographical. π

Oh the illustration made me smile! Now I’ll be ready if the moon hops π
Congratulations! It’s a lovely piece, full of heart and magic. Loved “Blue toes, blue lips, blue lost…”
Thank you, Krista!
The first thing I ever wrote was poetry. This sale means a lot to me.
