Pick Me Up, Before You Go-Go

Alethea MermaidToday I’m splashing about in the Waterworld Mermaid lagoon, launching our latest discussion topic: What are some things you use to pick yourself up when you’re feeling down?

No spoilers–you have to click over to the Mermaid site to find out (and leave comments!).

But I’ll give you a small hint: I get by with a little help from my friends…

What’s Love Got to Do With It?

Waterworld Mermaids LogoWhen it rains it pours. I should know by now that the minute I get home and prepped for NaNoWriMo, I suddenly find myself with multiple meetings and podcast interviews and guest blogs to share. Apres moi, le deluge!

Today, for example, two of my fabulous essays have gone live. The first: My now-infamous monthly blog post on the Waterworld Mermaids. This November me and a bunch of other fabulous author guests are discussing “What’s one thing you cannot write without?” My answer: LOVE.

That’s right. CLICK HERE and see what the tree-hugging hipy-dippy princess is on about now.

My second post is live at Apex Magazine — Apex is hosting their grand yearly subscription drive, and in honor of that they have asked some celebrity guests to stop by and chat about Short Stories. Of course, I jumped at the chance to talk about how I got hooked…and how that contributed to my juvenile life of crime.

Stop by, leave a comment or two, and above all — enjoy yourselves.

Happy November! xox

Happy October!

Alethea MermaidIt’s the first of the month again, which means it’s my turn to blog over at The Waterworld Mermaids.

Today I’m talking Location — writing about places you’ve never been, and urging you to visit as many places as you can to learn about them before you write them.

I also discuss the surreality of inventing a town that ACTUALLY EXISTS…

Is your passport up to date?

Where in the world would YOU like to go?

A Princess by Any Other Name

The Waterworld MermaidsToday over at the Waterworld Mermaid lagoon, I’m talking about name pronunciation…specifically, my own.

This has been a very harrowing six weeks, and having people call me by the wrong name for that long is possibly the reason for the migraine I’m currently having.

How badly has YOUR name ever been mangled? Tell me all about it HERE.

I’m often asked by friends if I’d rather go by “Alethea” or “Lee.” My answer: as long as you can pronounce “Alethea” correctly, it doesn’t matter.

I also answer to “Princess.”
