Pics from New York Comic Con

I leave for the Waterworld Mermaid Writing Retreat in Ocean City, MD tomorrow — I am GOING TO FINISH THIS NOVEL REVISION by next week, no ifs, ands, or buts. (Unless I need them in a paragraph.)

But I’ve come up for air after packing (…again…) to post my lovely pics from NYCC. As always, I wish there were more  (and I wish there were more of me!) but Janet and I were happily trapped behind a very busy table in Artists Alley the entire weekend. I’m actually shocked I captured this many great costumes.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

2011 Eisner Awards

The 2011 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards will be announced tonight. I have to work all day long, and I will be chomping at the bit and checking my phone every five minutes until I hear the results.

For those of you who don’t know why, here it is: “Topping the 2011 nominees with 5 nominations is Return of the Dapper Men, a fantasy hardcover by writer Jim McCann and artist Janet Lee, published by Archaia. It has nods for Best Publication for Teens, Best Graphic Album–New, Best Writer, Best Artist, and Best Publication Design.”

For once in my life, I am seriously bummed that I can’t be at SDCC this year. Not for the crowds or the swag or the “Oh my gosh, I met ___ in line for the bathroom!”, but because of this awards ceremony.

I was there with a cadre of Codexians when my dear Mary Robinette Kowal won the John W. Campbell Award, and I was similarly on my feet applauding and cheering when Eric James Stone walked up to receive his Nebula earlier this summer. Janet and Jim know that I will be there in spirit, with my glittery dress and tiara on, hands red from clapping and voice sore from yelling over and over.

It is FIVE AWARDS, after all.

Happy DAPPER Day!

In celebration of today’s release of Jim McCann & Janet Lee’s Return of the Dapper Men, I have changed my profile pics on both Twitter and Facebook to this Dapper version of MOI! Janet drew this last year for the “Diary of a Mad Scientist Garden Gnome” serial (which, like Dapper Men, was *also* inspired by a J.K. Lee Christmas ornament).

Janet asked me what I would like for my author pic, so I’m sure I said “something steampunky…with a top hat!” And this is what I got!! What do you think? She just knows I look good in red.

I am so very excited about this graphic novel release — it’s one thing when two of your longtime friends get to work together on an awesome project, and it’s quite another when that project pops up on MTV, Ain’t it Cool News, USA Today, and the NYT Christmas Gift List. (!!!)

I mean, seriously, Janet, could you make it HARDER for a little sister to keep up with you? Sheesh!! All I did was get reviewed!

Be smart and get your hands on this book before it has to go to reprint — click here to purchase Return of the Dapper Men from Amazon.com. If you’d like to know a little more about the book, click here to watch the YouTube trailer. (Warning: you will be instantly sad that this is not an animated series.)

Click here to visit Janet’s Etsy shop and purchase some beautiful and inspiring Christmas ornaments of your own! They are limited edition original sets every year, so if you see one you like, get it now. They are light and easy to ship, so they make great gifts. And what could be a better gift than original artwork on your Christmas tree?

Janet is just that awesome. Which is why she gets to be the Aviatrix.

I Have Book Trailer Envy

Major, major envy.

Jim and Janet are so freaking lucky. And in turn *I* am lucky, because they are my friends and I love them. Isn’t it awesome how that turns out? Like clockwork.

Have you preordered Return of the Dapper Men? I’m gonna do that right now.
