Jenna Does HERO (with giveaway!)

Jenna over at Jenna Does Books has posted a really great review of HERO:

Hero, October 1, 2013JENNA’S REVIEW

My favorite fairy tale writer, Alethea Kontis, pulls off another slam dunk with HERO, the second of her stories about the Woodcutter sisters. HERO is a gender-bending, swash-buckling tale about Saturday, the second youngest sister to Sunday, whom we previously met in Enchanted. While Sunday was a whimsical girl with an art for words, Saturday is a strong and willful girl with plenty of heart (plus some added snark). Her story proved to be just as enthralling as the first!

Alethea has a knack for reminding readers why many of us love fairy tales to begin with. In this entry we are once again given a delightful story with some obvious (and some not-so-obvious) nods to classic tales, such as The Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin and more. It was so much fun picking out the various references. Just like Enchanted, HERO is built upon these familiar stories, but her overlying story and characters are entirely of her own creation. You never think “Wait, this is just a retelling of Cinderella!” or “I feel like I’ve heard this before…” because Alethea’s story and characters are wholly unique and distinguishable – not to mention they have so much more personality.

(Giveaway ends September 30th.)

Thank you, Jenna. You are my Hero!

My Story on Endpapers

I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to the juxtaposition of seeing an author’s book on my TBR pile and then meeting them in person. I mean, I’m often careful what I say about books on the interwebs because I know someday I probably *will* meet that person, but there’s still a fangirl jolt when I see the face behind the covers.

So you can imagine how much I lit up when I realized I would be sitting next to Alma Katsu at the Nora Roberts Mega Book Signing…and what a complete jerk I felt like for not remembering to bring The Taker and my ARC of The Reckoning for her to sign.

Needless to say, we hit it off anyway, and realized we live about five minutes from each other. Hooray for new local writing friends! I see much coffee and venting in our future.

I invited Alma to be part of this year’s Month of Authors and Artists (coming up this July!), and in turn, she invited me to answer a few interview questions on her blog. In true Barabara Walters fashion she asked some great questions…which is to say that the answers got quite personal, and I talked about some things I don’t usually mention (like why I really left Tennessee).

Do please drop by to read my ramblings and leave a message!

Also on her blog, Alma is running a contest through the end of June! You could win a NOOK tablet ($199 value), B&N gift card and even a bit of alchemy: Imp’s Ears of exotic perfumes and a magician’s mojo bag from the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. She’ll have swag for three runners-up. Entering is both fun and easy — click here to see how. I highly recommend entering. Good luck!

Chip In for Gas!

I love this day and age when you can wish for something AND IT ALREADY EXISTS.

Why, just the other day, I was wishing there was a place like Kickstarter where I could set up a page and ask my friends if they’d like to help chip in for gas money on my Book Tour this summer.

Not half an hour later, I had my very own CHIP IN page, and $110 already in my gas fund. (THANK YOU, MY DEAREST FRIENDS!)

I estimate that gas will be about $500 for the trip. If this fund goes over $500, I will use the money to buy EVEN MORE SWAG to give away at my booksignings.

Soteria has also sweetened the pot this morning — anyone who Chips In a bit of cash — even if it’s only a couple of bucks — will be entered to win an original necklace from Dixie Dunbar Studio.

So what are you waiting for? Throw a few bucks in the tip jar. And I’LL SEE YOU THIS SUMMER!!

Video Chat — For Real This Time!

A miscommunication last month over at Coffee Time Romance left Leanna Renee Hieber, Suzanne Lazear, and me watching tumbleweed in an empty online chatroom.

This Sunday at 2pm EST, fellow Mermaids Robin Covington, Avery Flynn and I are going to try it again…this time on video! We’re co-hosting (with Bewitching Book Tours), so there’s no mix-up. And there will be prizes…like a signed ARC of ENCHANTED!

Avery’s written up the deets for us here — be sure to spread the word. The more the merrier!

Have you ever wanted to see a Waterworld Mermaid in her natural habitat? Chat about books in the lagoon? Ask questions about our latest releases and upcoming novels?

Waterworld Mermaids Alethea Kontis, Robin Covington and Avery Flynn have some amazing news to share. We are co-hosting an hour-long Rockin’ Romance video chat at 2 p.m. this Sunday (March 11). Stop by  to talk books, music, and chocolate with us. In addition, I’m sure they’ll be some mancandy, writer gossip and some inappropriate language. (Hey, we’re Waterworld Mermaids, we’re known for our outrageous enthusiasm, not our decorum.)

We’ll be giving away a humongous gift basket to one lucky participant filled with signed copies of Up a Dry Creek by Avery Flynn and Enchanted by Alethea Kontis, an iTunes gift card, reading goodies and at least one box of your favorite Girl Scout cookies!

What’s that? You’re evil twin is planning to take over the world this Sunday by destroying all the bookstores on the Eastern shore so you can’t make the chat? Totally understandable. Leave a question or suggest a conversation topic in the comments below and you’ll be in the running for the Rockin’ Romance gift basket.

Participating in the video chat is easy. Just visit at 2 p.m. Sunday and follow the onscreen prompts. All you need is a a web cam, a love of romance novels and a sense of humor. We can’t wait to chat with you in the lagoon!
