Tea in Space: Lamentation

In our most passionate Tea in Space podcast to date, Janet Lee and I get all fired up about certain nitpicky items in Ken Scholes’ new book LAMENTATION. Got your chilled peach wine and messenger bird at the ready? Click here…and be prepared for a discussion worthy of a good con suite at 2am.

Gypsy Lee reads HORRIBLE THINGS in Janet’s teacup. (okay…not really.)

Bonus Material:
If you haven’t yet read my fun and fabulous Genre Chicks interview with Ken, you can check that out here.

Ken’s story "The Weeping Czar Beholds the Fallen Moon", read it or listen to it read for you by the wondermous Mary Robinette Kowal.

Ken’s story "Grail Diving in Shangrilla with the World’s Last Mime" is available at Subterranean Online.

Alethea Google

For a long time I didn’t bother messing with this Google meme (where you type in: "your name something") meme, ’cause I figured there weren’t enough Aletheas in the world. Guess I was wrong. This was kind of interesting.

********************************************

1) "Alethea needs" all her detective skills, and the help of her friends, to solve the mystery of Eloise.
2) "Alethea looks like" a dream.
3) "Alethea says" "But the scale and the mirror don’t lie! That’s why I’m a true believer!" (for the record, I do not endorse any weight loss product or method. Unless it involves roller skating.)
4) "Alethea wants" to make a difference in the world through her writing.
5) "Alethea does" NOT REVIEW OR SUBSTANTIATE ANY OF THE INFORMATION, PRODUCTS, SERVICES, OR CLAIMS MADE ON THE WEB SITE.
6) "Alethea hates" it whenever he recedes into the shadows so alien from the traditional kind their kind knew, but it’s not her feelings he cares about.
7) "Alethea asks" members who have recently published books and who would like to have an autograph party to write to her immediately. (no, I don’t.)
8) "Alethea likes" to think that her intellect and quirky personality more than compensate for what she lacks in physique.
9) "Alethea eats" rice for the first time.
10) "Alethea wears" a producer’s hat for the first time.
11) "Alethea was arrested for" – no dice! I guess all us Aletheas are above the law. Good for us.
12) "Alethea loves" to indulge her passion for traveling, attending church, watching movies, reading fiction and non-fiction, chatting with friends, shooting pool, watching NFL and NBA games, and shopping.
13) "Alethea is" finally driven by fear and is currently panicking. as a result she is suddenly very very motivated. (The other 15 were "Alethea is in your extended network.")
14) "Alethea was" so blinded by Penrose’s charm that she mistook him for an honorable man.

Isn’t that always the way.

Yes and No

YES, Kitti broke her arm over the weekend, and will not be at work for the next couple of days.

NO, I did not push her down at the roller rink.

I’ve been asked at least four times now. Really, people. I know you don’t *actually* think I’d do harm to anyone, but that you mentioned i at all means it at least crossed your mind. It’s slightly worrying.

Let me tell you a secret: my path to world domination does not include maiming one of my best friends.

Promise.

The Alethea Section

I assumed I was just going to have my pic and interview on the front page of the Lifestyles section of the Daily News Journal…I only hoped it was "above the fold." After the Bleeding Hearts Club program yesterday (which was a smashing success — pictures tk), Mom and I drove all around town (do you have any idea how HARD it is to find a newspaper in Murfreesboro?) gathering up a few papers.

Not only was I mentioned in the top bar on THE front page, I was splashed all over the front of the PULL-OUT SECTION, the table of contents of said section, and my interview was the centerfold.

Astonished doesn’t quite cover it.

The Good Ship Mary

In other good news today comes a streak from my dear friend Mary Robinette Kowal. In the last week:

* Mary turned 40. She dressed like Cinderella for the formal dinner held in her honor.

* She won against me in Iron Chef Pear Battle (But only by the skin of her teeth. And I did have one arm effectively tied behind my back).
* Her infamous grandmother turned 104. (The almond-flavored birthday cake was divine.)
* She accepted a 2-book deal from Liz Gorinsky at Tor books for her "Jane Austen with Magic" series, the first of which is entitled Shades of Milk and Honey.
* Today is her mother’s birthday.

If you haven’t stopped by her website to wish her felicitations on one, or all, of these events, I encourage you to do so. As an added incentive, I offer you this special treat that Mary’s father performed for us after dinner.

Cheers to you, Mary. May your lucky dirigible keep sailing the skies!!!

Happy Anniversary, Mom & Dad!

I have declared today Only Good News Day. Next up in our series of happiness:

My most excellent parents were married 36 years ago today in a Greek Orthodox church in Vermont, with my father still drunk on ouzo from the night before (thank my godfather for that one). The legend became just one of the many amazing stories my family tells as we live our interesting life.

Two months and two days after their marriage, Mom & Dad sat down to watch the new episode of Kung Fu. It starred a young Jodie Foster playing a little girl named Alethea Ingram…and fate waved her magic wand.

Dad’s caught up in work (and a big fishing trip) this week, and can’t be with Mom for their anniversary, so she’s coming to visit me. Hooray! And we shall celebrate.

Love you guys!!! xoxox

I’ve told Mom she can quit looking like me aaaaany day now.

Good News Always Welcome

If you’ve been following the adventures of my shattered pipes on Facebook or Twitter, thank you for your patience and encouragement. But while it was my water that broke, I’m not the one who’s spectacularly preggers. (And I mean, SPECTACULARLY.)

Go congratulate Jen and Ken Scholes!!
